Depression in teenagers: signs parents should not miss

किशोरों में डिप्रेशन

In teenagers, depression often shows as irritability, anger or withdrawal rather than obvious sadness, so it is easily mistaken for "attitude" or laziness.

Early help protects studies, friendships and safety. Most teenagers improve with counselling, family support and, when needed, medicines.

Frequently asked questions

Is it just a phase?

Are antidepressants safe for teenagers?

Some are used safely under supervision. Doctors monitor closely in the first weeks, and families should report any worsening or new suicidal thoughts.

Should the family join the consultation?

Yes, family input is very helpful — especially for children, teenagers, eating disorders and memory problems. Part of the session can also be private.
