Cyclothymia: frequent mood ups and downs

साइक्लोथाइमिया (बार-बार मूड बदलना)

Cyclothymia involves many periods of mildly elevated mood and many periods of low mood over at least two years, without meeting the full criteria for mania or major depression.

It can strain relationships and work, and some people later develop bipolar disorder, so recognising it matters.

Frequently asked questions

Is cyclothymia the same as bipolar disorder?

It is on the same spectrum but milder. Some people later develop bipolar disorder, so follow-up is important.

Isn't everyone moody sometimes?

Yes, but in cyclothymia the swings are frequent, last for years and cause problems.

Do I need medicines?

Not always. It depends on how much the mood swings affect your life.
